Fancy Nancy is the main character in a series of children books. Mrs Devine is her glamorous neighbor that teaches Nancy about all things fancy. It was such a great event. They gave all of the little girls boas to wear and tiaras (Zoe had brought her own). Then Mrs Devine came out and read the most recent story in the series and played games with all of the little ladies. Afterward everyone had cookies and milk (or scones and tea for the grown-ups). All that and Zoe was given party favors including a free kids meal at California Pizza Kitchen. I will definitely be looking for more events at Borders.

(Probably the only picture of her face I managed to get all day)

(Zoe playing with the feather boa)

(Zoe and I before the event began...the tiara and boa didn't last long)

(Mrs. Devine talking to the girls)

(Zoe wondering around in her Fancy Dress...the invite did say to dress fancy)

In addition to attending book readings Zoe is quite the little lady that lunches as well. Here are some highlights from Saturday,

Kai holding Zoe

Zoe hanging with the boys and playing football

Getting some advice from 6 year old Kai

Family Picture

Well after many days of trying to get a family picture taken we finally got one......everything from weather to naps to hunger seemed to get in the way. Best money ever spent!!!!! We still have the kitchen put away (trying to space out the new toys) but Zoe put that shopping cart right to work.

(Showing off the "food" that came with her cart)

(Performing her favorite activity....put the boxes in....take the boxes out....put the boxes in...etc...)

Zoe will push the cart everywhere and try to put almost anything in it. Often Gigi (her toy baby doll) sits up front or her purse does, "just like Mama" Chris likes to point out. She has even gotten really good at maneuvering the cart into small spaces (the bathroom) or pulling it onto the rug if it gets stuck. Highly recommend this toy as it seems to provide endless opportunities for fun....at least in the eyes of a toddler.

As big as your head

Zoe and I had lunch on Sunday at the Atlanta Bread Company (just like Panera). Her kids meal came with a cookie that was seriously huge. She loved it!!! She would take it out of the bag, take a bite then put it back in. This routine allowed me to walk across the parking lot to Marshalls and browse with no complaints from Munchkin. I did stop the cookie fest to steal a few bites and offer milk to Zoe but man was she a happy camper.

Zoe the Destructor

Zoe broke our TV. And of course not the small one in the guestroom but the nice big one in the living room. How you may ask? By turning it off. Seriously that is all she did. Zoe turned it off then on then off and it will turn on no more. We have no idea what happened. Right now we are contemplating hiring a repair guy ($90 just to come out and look at it). Or buy a new one. This happened on Monday (Memorial Day), and honestly it has been nice with no TV in the living space but then again that is the TV that is linked to our DVR so lets see how long this lasts. Also Zoe and I have not been home during the day that much so not having access to Sesame Street has not been a problem.....yet.

Time flys when you're having fun.....

Or being sick or just living I guess. Pardon the delay in posting. We have been having a great time with all of the commissioning week activities only partially interrupted by a nasty cold that caught Chris and I completely off guard. We managed to still be able to partake in some of the Naval Academy's commissioning week activities. First was Herndon:

The craziness that is pictured above was the plebes (freshmen) trying to climb to the top of that monument which was oh by the way covered in crisco!!! They try to wipe down as much as possible before climbing up. With the ultimate goal to be getting the hat at the top and replacing it with a plebe cover (silly hat that only the plebes have to wear). They finally made it in a little over an hour. Pretty funny to watch but painful to partake in I would assume. Often they would get a couple of feet away only to then slip and all fall down....and then start all over. Oh what the poor plebes have to go through.

(Zoe walking with Chris after the Herndon Event)

Next (Tuesday May 19th) was the Blue Angels practice and then the actual show on Wednesday. They were awesome!!! Traffic around the Academy was not! One of the bridges was shut down to allow for the Angels to use it as a reference point and that kinda messed traffic up all around. Parking on the yard was also sooo much fun that week. There was plenty of extra security and many many guests so Chris walked to work everyday and we tried not to drive if we could avoid it. Did I mention how awesome the Blue Angels were though? Truly amazing to watch. The most common word heard in the crowd was, "WOW!" followed by "did you see that?" Very fun experience, already looking forward to it next year.

(Blue Angels Performing)

(Zoe laughing hysterically as Chris C. flies her around like a Blue Angel)

Chris remained busy the rest of the week with graduation events. Zoe and I watched some of the activities (the silent drill team, the color Parade and the bag pipes perform) but were not able to get into graduation itself (President Obama was speaking so security was tight and desire to get in was high). It was nice to have Chris home mid day on Friday and then we went to a bar-b-que at a friends house to celebrate that week (and year) being over. Now the summer begins and I think Chris may end up being even busier......we shall see.

Zoe is 18 Months Old!!!

Our Baby Girl is ONE AND A HALF years old!!!!! She was peacefully and quietly I might add coloring at her picnic table with paper and crayons. Then as she had already done about 4 times she brought all of her supplies to me on the couch. But instead of handing them to me as she had done the 4 times before she stated frantically coloring the couch with her green crayon. I jumped and grabbed the crayon and said "No, we do not color on the couch" causing her to cry of course but as soon as I started scrubbing the couch (and yes it came out beautifully) she wanted to help as well and she was no longer upset. After cleaning the couch she then wiped down her picnic table.....sweet! Didn't think to grab the camera and take a picture of my little Picasso/ merry maid or the couch. This does make me re-think ever getting a light colored couch though!

Mind Boggling

The current issues boggling the minds of the McCurrys are:

Where are Chris' car/ house keys? I bought 2 to try them out and they were great. Chris thought so as well so we decided after a few weeks that I would buy some more. The first 2 were purchased at a store in North Carolina and with no option to buy from a store near me in Annapolis I turned to the Internet. Do you have any idea how many freaking websites are out there for cloth diapers????? It is ridiculous and of course for every website I check out I find out about more products leading me to even more websites to do more research.

We are up to about 7 diapers now with more being ordered as I type. I have 4 different brands thus far and the ones I am ordering are going to be a completely different system all together. I am glad I am doing this for so many reasons (mostly environmentally and financially) I just wish they were more readily available at say a store within 50 miles of me!

Well wish me luck on my ongoing hunt to find the perfect cloth diaper and cloth diaper website!

Starbucks

Yummy Starbucks.......

Just kidding that was my drink this was Zoe's.......good old water. As we were walking through the Academy what did we find....soap bubbles!!! Apparently someone pulled a senior prank or just a prank in general and filled a fountain on campus with soap causing lots and lots of bubbles...

(The fountain is in the middle of those 2 buildings...the soap was all over this grassy area)

We continued on to class and Zoe was thrilled from the start. Well that was our weekend in a nut shell. On Friday afternoon we drove over to Gate 1 (the main gate of the Academy and the closest to downtown) we parked our car and then proceeded to walk downtown and over the bridge to Eastport. The MRE moms and dads were having a happy hour. It was a great walk as the weather was beautiful and happy hour was fantastic. Kids were of course welcome and the family that hosted has a beautiful home on the water. Chris got to finally meet some of the moms that I spend so much time with and I got to meet many of my friend's husbands. Around 7:30 we called it quits and started our walk back home. Downtown was packed!!! Tourist season has definitely begun but all the energy is fun to be around.

On Saturday morning we headed to a park nearby to check out a craft fair I had heard about. We were not so impressed with the sale but Zoe had a blast on the playground. After messing around there for awhile we headed out to get some lunch and run errands. We did stop on the Seawall inside the academy and watch the sailboats as they were out in full force for the first time since last fall.

(View from the playground)

(Zoe on the Swing)

Sunday was a great day as well. It was the annual Croquet match between the Naval Academy and St John's College. We obviously had no idea what went into this event as we showed up in casual clothes and no alcohol. Many people dressed up for the Gatsby-esque affair complete with 20's style hats and dresses. Food and Drinks were in abundance and the jazz music could be heard all over. We meet up with some MRE friends as well as our navy buddies over on the St John's front lawn. Zoe loved showing off her walking skills and eating the cupcakes. The Croquet match, while it was the purpose of the event definitely was more of a side show to all the socializing and drinking.

(Zoe and Daddy when we first arrived)

(The croquet match. Soon after arriving to see the Cherry Blossom Festival we decided that our time in the city would be better spent as a reconnaissance mission. The Festival was packed as was the city. Many factors contributed to this we think: Weekend, Spring Break, and the first Beautiful Weather in awhile. So we made our way from the Smithsonian Metro Station through the Mall and walked through the main part of the Cherry Blossom Festival allowing Zoe to take a few steps as well.

We then headed up Pennsylvania Ave toward the White House where as to be expected there was a huge crowd. We made our way to the metro station that we had arrived at and quickly decided to keep walking. There was a line just to get into the station. We walked about 4 or 5 blocks to the next one and happily walked right in and waited for our train. We got a seat but as you can see below Zoe didn't care she was already fast asleep and stayed so the entire 30 minute ride back to our car. This allowed Chris and I to go out, just the two of us, for the first time in a LONG time (without my mom being here). There was a Junior League fundraiser that to be honest we were both feeling so-so about. WE ARE SO GLAD WE WENT!!!!! Chris and I had a blast. We saw tons of friends, had great food and wine and won some silent auction items to boot.

The best news though was that upon arriving home we found Zoe laying on her new friend and she was all smiles when she saw us (if I have ever left her in a daycare like setting before she would lose use once I came to pick her up and hold on to me tighter than ever before almost to say don't ever leave me here again) She seemed to have a great time though even blowing Molly kisses when she left. Looks like date nights will be in our future for sure!!! We meant to take a picture to prove our sans child evening but alas we had too much fun and forgot....we looked pretty good all dressed up though if I do say so myself =)

Fresh Air

Well we have been getting little glimpses of great weather again which we are so grateful for. Zoe and I took a walk on Friday and Chris met us halfway through. It ended up being a 3 hour long event which was great. We stopped for ice cream at Kilwins, windowed shopped on Main Street and let Zoe walk on the Parade Field on the Academy. The pictures below are of Chris lifting her up (1 -2- 3 Weeeeeee). Notice the bow in her hair....with both hands occupied holding Chris' hands she couldn't take it out and alas no hair in her face!!!

Once we got home Zoe decided to show off her walking skills. Zoe came down with a runny nose and congestion on Saturday and we have avoided going to playgroups and story times all week because of it. We have been keeping super busy for the past week(s). We have been so busy having fun that we had to hire a maid.....

(I will definitely try to encourage this behavior for years to come)

We went to a concert...ok it was at Pottery Barn Kids but Zoe seemed to like it

(Zoe holding and shaking her rhythm egg while the performer sang Splish Splash)

(You will not see Zoe in this picture as she refused to leave my arms or lap...but the other kids had fun dancing around)

Over the weekend we headed to the Chesapeake Children's Museum. Now I use the term Museum loosely as both Chris and I felt it was more of a playpen that you paid to get into. If our expectations had not been higher perhaps this would have been ok but after about 30 minutes we were out of there. Zoe seemed to enjoy the time we spent.....and what little we allowed her to play with (the place was a little dirty and chaos does not begin to describe)

(Zoe playing with the kitchen and table area. On Saturday we went to Ellie's 1st birthday party. Zoe had fun playing with all the girls from her playgroup (coincidentally they are all military families which gives us a lot in common)

Even more fun then the toys and playing with friends was sitting in Ellie's chair

("Don't I look cute in a chair just my size???")

And of course after singing Happy Birthday cupcakes were enjoyed by all.

(Yummy!!!)

After all the birthday fun we headed back home and received a call that some of our Fuqua friends were coming to downtown Annapolis. We were thrilled to go on a walk to meet up with Adam, Christine and Elise Boyd. We took them to our favorite ice cream spot, Kilwins. The girls seemed to enjoy seeing each other again. The car ride was about 5 hours or so plus stops and Zoe was a trooper!

(Zoe playing with Chris' wallet as an attempt to keep her happy the last 30 mins of the trip)

It was soooooo weird to be back and see all of the changes. There is now a Lowes being built at the corner of Fayettville and MLK. What used to be a dirt lot at the entrance to our neighborhood is now a senior living complex. And Fuqua's entrance was done!!!

(it was raining so we took this picture from the car)

We had a great time seeing old friends and hitting some of our fav spots. We had brunch at Foster's Saturday morning with Kris, Johann, Jason and Erin Rife and my friend Suzanne from the Junior League. We stopped by the Red Hen in Chapel Hill (a great children's consignment store that also sells new items) and scored on some things for Zoe. We then headed to the Duke bookstore and bought some more Duke Apparel for Chris and Zoe. I think Chris may actually have more Duke stuff than USC stuff which is just plain wrong in my opinion. I couldn't visit Durham without stopping by Parker and Otis. Here is the meal Chris and I shared, Zoe had her own grilled cheese.

(This is my favorite on their menu!!! The Chicken Curry Salad on Sunflower bread. We also each got a deviled egg...yummy!)

Saturday night we caught up with our old neighbors at Church and then hit Q Shack for a most delicious dinner. I know, I know it sounds like a lot of food but we just couldn't choose! Before heading out of town on Sunday we actually did what we came to Durham for, pick up our generator that Johann had borrowed for Campout. We then grabbed lunch from Saladelia to go and ate in the car. Good choice as we never saw anything but fast food for most of the car trip home.

The first part of the trip was raining (as was most of the weekend) but halfway through Virginia that rain turned to the snow and didn't stop! Luckily we got home in decent time but the snow kept coming. Zoe was very happy to stay at home all day Monday and out of her car seat. Chris was happy to stay home as well...due to the snow he got the day off from work. Chris already wants to go back in the summer. I keep trying to remind him of what summers in Durham are like but I think he already misses the hush puppies and turkey from Q Shack.

(Zoe eating grilled cheese and holding her new sippy cup)

(Zoe and I at Parker and Otis enjoying our lunch)

Water for Elephants

I just finished reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It was GREAT! I was told about it oh about a year and half ago but finally got around to reading it and was not disappointed. It completely enthralls you in the world of a traveling circus. There is romance, suspense, historical references and some comedy thrown in for laughs. I highly recommend you read it!!!

Here is the link to the summary on Amazon if you are interested:

http://www.amazon.com/Water-Elephants-Novel-Sara-Gruen/dp/1565124995

Misc.

I wanted to share some misc. photos that I have taken over the past few weeks that never made it to the blog. It kept going until Tuesday morning when she then broke out in a rash. Classic Roseola apparently.....oh what fun! Chris's Mom was in town but unfortunately we did not do much but hang out at home as Zoe just wants to nurse and sleep all day (and night). Hopefully her appetite will return and she will get her energy back. Until then we are housebound so no playgroups or story times for awhile. Here are some pictures we have taken over the past few days:

Zoe having lunch at Ikea last Friday....yummy mac-n-cheese

Zoe's Valentine's Day breakfast (that she didn't eat because she was sick) Heart shaped pancake and cheerios in the shape of a heart.

Zoe and Daddy with Zoe's Valentine's Day gifts...large crayons and an Elmo book

Zoe with Daddy and Grandma (Chris's Mom) before Grandma headed home

Zoe is 15 months old!!!!!

Zoe turned 15 months old yesterday. The story/ music time was great and it was awesome to run into so many people we know. The cheddar and chive scone with a ginger peach iced tea wasn't bad either. Here is a picture of the kids blowing "fairy" dust while making a wish. The story teller then did face painting. Zoe caught a cold last week which developed into an ear infection. She is currently still on antibiotics and getting better day by day. Chris and I came down with the wonderful congestion and sore throat this weekend. Hopefully we will all return to being healthy soon and Zoe can continue her progress in learning to walk.

Here are some pictures of her standing on her own for the first time (for any significant amount of time). I took these right before she got sick and we have not seen it since. She would stand up and then look at Chris and I with a smile almost as if she was saying "are you catching this? Look what I am doing" I am sure she will be walking in no time and I will wonder why I was so eager for her to learn.

All Done!

Ever since Zoe started eating solid foods we have tried teaching her the sign for "all done".
